DECEMBER TIP

tip of the month

Golf is different to any other sport, we all know this. I cant think of many sports where the target is still, the ball is still and until you decide to hit it you are still.

This is what makes it so hard. If you think about catching a ball you go through a number of calculations in your head like the speed of the ball the height and whether you need to move to ctach it. Amazingly you do all of this without thinking!

However when we play golf we have a number of things going through our heads; "keep your head down, keep the left arm straight, turn your shoulders..." None of it helps! You know this and I know this so why do we keep doing it?

Next time you play I would like you to have your practice swing removed from the ball and when you are here you can go through all the necassary swing thoughts and calculations you require, I call this the "think zone".

Once you have done all of the concious thinking required I want you to walk up to the ball and try to create a burning image of the target in your mind and hold that image and just let your natural swing

I call this the "play zone". When you are in the play zone you are not to think of any technical thoughts you just step up and hit like like you were 6 years old experienceing the pleasure of playing.

Let go of control to gain control, remember that you have hit thousands of golf shots in your life, you know how to do it. Trust your self
